This episode featured a deep discussion from a virtual eczema meet up, where eczema sufferers shared about the impact of eczema and dermatitis on their relationships and their caregivers. They also discussed why doctors aren't acknowledging or doing very much to help with topical steroid withdrawal. It was a great and emotional discussion that I hope you will enjoy!

This discussion was shared with permission from the facilitators, Linette Roungchun (@linettero) and Sean Dillnutt (@tsw_seandillnutt)

Have you (or anyone you know) ever experienced zingers? Zingers are common when it comes to topical steroid withdrawal (TSW), but it can also be experienced when some people have eczema and atopic dermatitis as well.

Zingers are a type of nerve pain, that can feel like you're being shocked, zapped, and they're also called "sparklers."

In this episode, I share my personal experience with zingers.

Please note that this is my personal experience only, and it is not meant to be substituted as medical advice. :)

In this 2 part series, Eric Koepp, co-founder of Skinesa, shared if probiotic skincare really works to help eczema and topical steroid withdrawal (TSW).  He also shared why there are only 2-3 real brands of probiotics.

It turns out that many probiotic brands don't contain actual probiotics in them. Many probiotic skincare brands are also using "false advertising", as many of them contain probiotic ingredients, with no actual probiotics in them.

Eric also shared that only 1 in 500 probiotic strains are based on "evidence-based" probiotics (meaning that they've been studied on in clinical trials).

Eric also shares the future of probiotic skincare, especially when most aren't "real".

In this episode, my guest talks all about how mouth breathing is tied to eczema, skin issues and the overall health of the rest of the body. We also discuss 2 research studies that specifically studied the link between mouth breathing and eczema (links below).

Mouth breathing can be related to:
  • Asthma & atopic dermatitis
  • Facial development changes (long narrow face & narrow mouth)
  • Crooked/crowded teeth & braces
  • Sleep interruption
  • Reduced oxygen levels
  • A tongue-tie
In children, interrupted breathing during sleep can have severe effects on brain growth.

Here are additional studies demonstrating the link between dental infection & eczema:

In the 2nd part of this 2-part series, we talk about why you should avoid coconut oil and olive oil on your scalp. We also talk about additional treatment options for seborrheic dermatitis - (aka. dandruff, eczema on your scalp and facial eczema).

You'll also learn why hydrosols (such as rosemary hydrosols) and apple cider vinegar can be a good option for seborrheic dermatitis.

You'll also learn if coal tar shampoo and zinc pyrithione is a good option for seborrheic dermatitis.

We also discussed if red light therapy can help seborrheic dermatitis.

In this episode, you'll discover:

  • What causes seborrheic dermatitis?
  • Why should you avoid putting coconut oil and olive oil on seborrheic dermatitis?
  • What are the treatment options for seborrheic dermatitis?
  • What is malassezia and how does this affect seborrheic dermatitis?
  • What are the best topical solutions to help malassezia?
  • What oils should you put on seborrheic dermatitis?
  • Why you should not apply undiluted essential oils directly to the skin

We also talked about how seborrheic dermatitis is caused by malassezia.

Everyone has malassezia. It is a lipophilic yeast that eats lipids, and it's a normal part of our body and our microflora. There are 14 different species of malassezia on humans, but they're on other mammals like dogs. We actually think that every mammal has malassezia -  but most people haven't heard of it! It's a yeast that everyone has that isn't talked about a lot.

Malassezia causes many different skin conditions, but the most common is seborrheic dermatitis, and we call it Seb Derm.

Today, we are going to talk about the treatments for malassezia that cause the dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis.
