My guest, Gilda Rovan, shared all about drainage pathways: what it is, how to tell if your drainage pathways are congested, and how to open up your drainage pathways to help eczema & topical steroid withdrawal (TSW).

You'll also learn other helpful information, including:
  • Why going on a restrictive diet isn't the answer

  • Why detox programs can be ineffective if you don't clear your liver and kidneys
  • What are the differences between detox pathways and drainage pathways?

In this episode, my guest talks all about how mouth breathing is tied to eczema, skin issues and the overall health of the rest of the body. We also discuss 2 research studies that specifically studied the link between mouth breathing and eczema (links below).

Mouth breathing can be related to:
  • Asthma & atopic dermatitis
  • Facial development changes (long narrow face & narrow mouth)
  • Crooked/crowded teeth & braces
  • Sleep interruption
  • Reduced oxygen levels
  • A tongue-tie
In children, interrupted breathing during sleep can have severe effects on brain growth.

Here are additional studies demonstrating the link between dental infection & eczema:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/

 - dental infection associated with nummular eczema
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16924154 - improvement of eczema symptoms after removing amalgams

http://www.jacionline.org/article/S0091-6749(16)31456-7/abstract - children with eczema more likely to develop tooth decay
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4411141/ - mouth breathing linked to higher rates of eczema

This is a clip from S4E3, where Dr. Matthew J Zirwas talked about how activated charcoal can help reduce an eczema flare. (Although he doesn't share about topical steroid withdrawal (TSW) - I have seen people use activated charcoal for their skin as well). To listen to the full episode, tune into S4E3 to learn more about how L-histidine, activated charcoal, apple cider vinegar, and melatonin can all help your eczema.
